Woodland festival shines with a sprinkling of fairy dust

CONSERVATION volunteers added a touch of magic to a wooded glade
over the weekend.
Hundreds of people turned up for the three-day Deepdale Woodland
Festival, organised by Te esdale Conservation Volunteers at their
centre near Startforth, Barnard Castle.
Organisers were trying to slow down the pace of life for
visitors, who watched craftsmen demonstrate traditional skills such
as swill and willow basketmaking, iron-sculpting, carving,
calligraphy and leather work.
For young visitors, there was face painting and den building, as
well as the chance to dress up as fairies, complete with wings,
wands and pointed ears.
