Article: The final game: Without football, Friday in East Bank won't be the same

In 38 years of living in East Bank, Charles Scarbro has had two possessions stolen - a lawn chair and a pot of flowers.

He likes the tame, easy pace of the eastern Kanawha County community. And though his aversion to crowds keeps him away from most East Bank High football games, he has gotten used to the hubbub surrounding fall Friday nights.

People park in front of his house on Main Street and make their way west to Calvert Field. In years past, either the junior high or high school bands have paraded past, lending a sense of drama and anticipation to a normally sleepy town.
