This summer's Olympic Games have just come to a close, and we may have just witnessed the greatest national coming-out party in history.

With China spending close to an estimated $50 billion to host the world at the XXIX Summer Olympics -- compared to the nearly $16 billion Athens spent four years ago -- it is obvious Chinese officials viewed the games as their opportunity to change global perceptions of their country for the better.
