Tucker County commissioners have agreed to stop spending
government money on flood control projects without putting the
contracts out for competitive bidding.
The commission made the agreement to settle a lawsuit filed by the
Affiliated Construction Trades Foundation and Nelson Excavating Inc.
over the lack of bidding for previous projects.
"We're happy to see this issue resolved so that important flood
control work can continue within the guidelines of state and federal
law," said Marvin Parsons, business agent for Operating Engineers
Local 132, an ACT Foundation affiliate.
Tucker County got state and federal grants of $3.5 million in 1996
and 1997 for flood control projects.
