OAKLAND -- The city of Oakland has given locals a reason besides
high gas prices and tight budgets to take a "staycation" over Labor
Day Weekend: Art & Soul Oakland.
Organizers expect 65,000 people to flock to downtown Oakland this
weekend for the annual, three-day festival that boasts 60 bands, six
stages, art installations, a children's carnival and food from many
cultures.
"It does provide us with a way to celebrate all that makes
Oakland a great city," said Samee Roberts, the festival's founder
and manager of the city's Cultural Arts and Marketing Department.
"Along with riding the waves, this is one consistency."
