Inside Education: Children too young to choose career path aged 14

CONSULTATION has begun on the new qualifications pupils will study in future.

From 2012, teenagers will no longer study Standard but General grades.

However, teachers are concerned about the change from a two-year course to a one-year structure.

Proposals by the Scottish Government would see all subjects taken until the end of third year, rather than second year as currently.

But teachers believe squeezing the new General grade into one year, rather than two, will mean pupils will only be able to take five of the qualifications rather than the current eight.
