Mark Udall, otherwise known by opponents as "that liberal Boulder
Democrat," will drive down Interstate 25, otherwise known as the
Ronald Reagan Highway, and spend this evening at a fundraiser in the
shadow of The Broadmoor resort, the heart of old-money Republicans
in Colorado Springs.
Udall -- who is facing Republican Bob Schaffer in November for
the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Wayne Allard -- appears to be
tapping into what political experts say is a growing number of
Democrats, unaffilliated voters and "persuadable" members of the GOP
who are unhappy with the Bush administration and its allies. These
