Article: Bay home sales halve in a year

House sales in Torbay have more than halved over the past year in the face of the continuing economic downturn.

Latest Land Registry figures reveal the number of properties sold in the Bay slumped by more than 50 per cent, to 153 in May, compared to 338 for the same month in 2007.

And the gloomy picture was repeated across the rest of Devon with property sales plummeting by 40 per cent during the same period from 1,544 to 913.

Nigel Green, managing director of South Devon agents Nigel Green Property Sales and Rentals Ltd, said: "The situation isn't great, but the South West has held up better than most other parts of the country.
