Anger as 'wrong shoes' boys sent home from school

Up to 30 pupils were sent home from a Newton Abbot school yesterday after they turned up for the first day of the new term wearing a 'wrong uniform'.

Angry parents say it was an extreme course of action by Newton Abbot College, the new name for Knowles Hill School.

The youngsters were sent home after many wore footwear not considered part of the school uniform.

Headteacher Gareth Davies said pupils were only sent home to change their shoes and that 'rules are rules'.

He played down the incident calling it was a 'storm in a tea cup' saying the vast majority of students had returned to school after getting changed.
