Article: Livestock sale earns more than $50,000 for 4-H'ers

More than $50,000 in premium money was donated by 94 individuals and businesses to youth at the 2008 Shawnee County Fair livestock auction.

The 4-H and FFA youth from Shawnee County sold 132 beef, sheep, swine, meat goats and poultry at the auction on July 27 at the Kansas Expocentre.

Youth use the money to set up college funds and pay off their production expenses. The donations to the 4-H'ers make it possible for the youth to buy animals, feed, and supplies to raise an animal project. The youth learn responsibility, how to care and feed an animal, and how to work hard toward a goal. The following lists youth, buyers, and the premium amount the animal sold for:
