It may have been a rotten year for the average green-fingered
resident but visitors to the West's biggest gardening show will
today see that nothing can stop monster vegetables setting new
records.
A craggy monster marrow, looking more like one of Dr Who's
adversaries, has weighed in at an incredible 65 kilos to beat the
old Guinness world record by three kilos. It took two men to carry
it to its display table.
It is just one of the spectacular exhibits in the giant vegetable
contest at the show, which runs for three days at the Royal Bath &
West showground, near Shepton Mallet.
A wealth of plants, a glorious flower marquee, the National
Dahlia Society display, show gardens, trade stands, ...
