garden. The Republican candidate for the US presidency might win.
John McCain, who could turn out to be like George Bush but with more
grey cells, could beat Barack Obama to the White House.
I am no great admirer of Obama and the near evangelical aura that
has been created around him. His motto of "hope you can believe in"
seems more to me like hype that you can't. But watching and
listening to McCain, and his vice-presidential candidate Sarah
Palin, gives me a serious case of the jitters. And I dare say it is
a common feeling. The USA could be about to replace the most
reactionary president in modern memory with the next ...
