For years, local life sciences leaders have lamented the state's
dearth of clinical trials, the human studies that are crucial to
determining whether experimental drugs and medical devices are
effective and safe.
The Massachusetts Life Sciences Collaborative commissioned a task
force last year to study the issue, and in June, Governor Deval L.
Patrick signed legislation ordering the state's new life sciences
center to look into ways to increase the number of clinical trials
conducted in Massachusetts.
But after months of study, the collaborative's task force
concluded it's not worth fretting about after all. Federal data show
