Article: MacCorkle Avenue landmark set to be torn down: ; UC then hopes to sell site of former Carbide offices

The University of Charleston has decided to demolish Building 82, the 11-story office tower on MacCorkle Avenue in South Charleston.

"The decision has been made to demolish it," said Cleta Harless, the university's vice president of administration and finance. "We're going to sell the property. We believe the value of the property is greater without the building. We're hoping that someone will develop that property to benefit South Charleston and Kanawha County.

"Our intent is to sell it in total and not break it up," she said of the seven-acre site.

The university's asking price is $3.5 million. "We've had a couple of parties that have expressed interest but we haven't accepted any offers ...
