Prime lambs rose $2 to $3 a head at livestock sales at Canterbury
Agricultural Park, in Christchurch, this week. Strong demand existed
for well-finished lambs of 17kg and heavier, and the best of the
prime lambs made $135. The best store lambs made $74 to $81. A
smaller yarding of prime sheep saw values similar to last week with
strong bidding for heavy, good-cutting sheep. Heavy ewes made $68 to
$73. In the prime cattle market, steers made as high as 244c/kg and
heifers 240c.
Prime lambs
Values: All prime lambs improved by $2 to $3 with the very best
up to $135. There was a strong demand for well-finished lambs of 17
kilograms and heavier.
