A once-in-a-lifetime "La Boheme" opened The Skylight's season
Friday evening.
Singing, acting, pacing and intimate scale make this production,
directed by William Theisen and conducted by Pasquale Laurino,
special. For once, it was possible to believe that Rodolfo and Mimi
could fall in love in moments. For once, Rodolfo and his three
comrades-in-arts lived as distinct personalities, as opposed to
slight variations on a stereotype. For once, the humor of the Cafe
Momus scene, dominated by Danielle Hermon Wood's formidable Musetta,
tumbled out in the bawdy mood and farcical pace that Puccini surely
had in mind. And for once, it was possible to believe that these
were impetuous young people, ...
