Article: State looks to get back into horse racing business

A local man who grew up in the horse racing business opted for a less competitive career nearly 20 years ago when the industry trotted out of Missouri.

With no tracks in the state, he said he only could have continued racing if he moved 300 to 500 miles away.

Now Wayne Duncan and his four-legged co-workers chauffeur Northwest Missouri couples and families on nostalgic carriage rides, whether it's clip-clopping at a holiday lighting ceremony or a grocery store wedding.

"It was the only way to stay in the business and enjoy what I do," Mr. Duncan said, noting the decline of county fairs brought the downfall of the racing that existed in Missouri.
