Article: Is Mike Myers on the edge of extinction? ; "The Love Guru," his first comedy is years, opens poorly

Poor Mike Myers. It seems that being the voice of Shrek for three movies in a row isn't enough to keep your fans faithful.

After a six-year hiatus from real comedies, Myers was back this weekend with "The Love Guru," co-starring Jessica Alba, Justin Timberlake and Vern Troyer. As it turned out, nobody was really eager to see Myers doing real comedy again.

"The Love Guru" opened with a measly $14 million, a number made even more dismal when compared to the more than $39 million It Comedian of the Moment Steve Carell's "Get Smart" took in this weekend. And it's nowhere near the $73 million Myers last starring comedy, "Austin Powers in Goldmember," made in 2002.
