I DIDN'T PLAN my first trip to Yankee Stadium. But I'm sure glad
I went. That first impression, formed six years ago, will be my
lasting one.
Yankee Stadium is closing up shop Sunday. It's one of America's
most iconic stadiums, and it's served the masses for 85 years.
We here in the Bay Area hopelessly wish we could bid farewell to
our decaying pits along Candlestick Point in San Francisco and
Hegenberger Road in Oakland. That said, those stadiums still manage
to hold spots in our hearts because of memories we've watched unfold
there.
Imagine the flood of memories Yankees fans are experiencing this
weekend as "The House that Ruth Built" heads for demolition.
