MCGREGOR, Iowa - So far, the entire collection of dinosaur bones
found in Iowa could be placed in a breadbasket.
But that doesn't discourage Brian J. Witzke. In fact, he is
fairly confident that many more are out there, just waiting for
someone to find them.
Witzke, a geologist for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources
as well as an editor for the Journal of Paleontology, spoke at the
Iowa Geological Society Banquet held in McGregor in November. During
a dinosaur slide show, he explained the process of dinosaur
preservation and what might and might not remain to be found by bone
hunters in the state of Iowa.
To be fossilized, a dinosaur had to be quickly buried.
