Article: State puts 1,000 families on waiting list for child-care aid

DES MOINES (AP) - An anticipated shortfall of child-care assistance for poor families forced state officials to put more than 1,000 qualifying families on a waiting list.

Julie Ingersoll, a Department of Human Services administrator who oversees child-care subsidies, told legislators this week that more than 1,800 children are not being served.

"The majority of families on that waiting list are our working families," Ingersoll told the Legislature's human services budget committee.
