It used to be that the Costa del Sol, while popular, was not
exactly, erm, sophisticated. As a holiday destination it was more
famous for its lobster-red British tourists and the availability of
Watney's Red Barrel than it was for its upmarket lifestyle and
stylish shops and hotels. But these days the Costa - and the people -
are different (well, most of them). Take Roger. He bought a modest
holiday home in Marbella 20 years ago and has seen many changes on
the Costa del Sol. His conclusion is that although there has been
tremendous growth, the place is better than ever. As a result he is
spending more time here and is now considering buying a bigger house.
