BACK in the early '80s, rockin' power chords meant big hair and
butt-clenching lycra gym shorts. The best example: Van Halen --
loud, flamboyant, utterly over the top.
Successfully merging power-rock and glam-rock, Van Halen struck a
light-metal formula that kids could play without their parents
