THE topic of the moment at Piha is the proposal that an up-
market
"eco-resort" be built on a wild untouched piece of the coast called
The Gap. As the tide rises, breakers pour through The Gap from the
Tasman Sea in a fierce display. The falling tide leaves a natural
swimming pool -- The Blue Pool -- and a tiny pristine beach nestled
in an amphitheatre of cliffs.
