TARANAKI jockey Paul Taylor is hoping yesterday's Gold Cup winner Talk Show can emulate the feat of another front-running stayer Our Boyfriend and win Saturday's $140,000 New Zealand Cup.

Taylor was drawn to compare the unusual style of the two stayers after Talk Show led most of the way yet stuck on gamely to beat Azabeel in yesterday's $40,000 cup prelude at Riccarton.

Taylor said he recalled watching Mark Barnsley win the cup in 1984 on the free-going Our Boyfriend and on the strength of yesterday's win he saw no reason why Talk Show could not do the same.
