IF THE theme of so much drama in the International Festival of the
Arts has been dislocation and search for identity, then the creative
methods have been the opposite. Multi-media shows abound and the
term cross-art describes something that uses technology and all the
arts to create total theatre. Collaboration rules, OK?
Such a work is Les Noces, words and music by Stravinsky for 10
dancers, two choirs, solo singers and grand pianos -- four of each --
plus percussion, harp and organ. The idea comes from Stephen
Morrison of Opera New Zealand -- the group formed in 1990, which this
year brought us Don Giovanni -- and is supported by the Royal New
