EXCEPT for Jenufa, brought to New Zealand some years ago by the Australian Opera, Leos Janacek has been the great 20th century composer that we neglected, his music a minority interest, treasured by enthusiasts, but heard only on CD or Concert FM.

Next month that will change when the New Zealand International Festival of the Arts stages Katya Kabanova, and includes his Glagolitic Mass, Sinfonietta, String Quartet No 1 (Kreutzer Sonata), Mladi Suite and The Diary of One Who Vanished in its programmes.
