A SINGER on stilts, 20 dancers, a chorus of 75 and an orchestra
with more than 100 musicians will feature in Opera New Zealand's
startling production of Puccini's Turandot next year.
At a party to celebrate the launch of its season of Tosca at
Auckland's Aotea Centre last night, Opera NZ general manager Stephen
Morrison announced the company's 1997 programme, which will also
include Verdi's Il Trovatore.
Morrison said Turandot, set in ancient Beijing, would be based on
the Australian Opera production, which was directed by Sydney Dance
Company director and prominent dancer Graeme Murphy.
