Paving stones for the $4 million redevelopment of Cathedral
Square
should be sourced locally if possible, says Christchurch City
councillor Denis O'Rourke.
He was responding to news that some of the pavers being
considered
by staff and council consultants for the redevelopment were made in
Perth, Western Australia.
``We will be hung, drawn, and quartered if we say to people we
are
dragging shingle (paving stones) thousands of miles from Perth when
this city is built on shingle,'' he told the council's central city
committee.
Area roading engineer Tony Lange said the 300mm by 200mm
reconstituted stone aggregate pavers proposed for the pedestrian
areas were not available in New Zealand and ...
