AUCKLAND -- The New Zealand Law Society is considering taking
High
Court action against Judge Martin Beattie, who is sitting on an
Accident Rehabilitation and Compensation Insurance Corporation
tribunal after being acquitted on fraud charges.
Society president Ian Haynes said the action could be brought
under section 92 of the Law Practitioners Act for ``reasonable
cause,
whenever and wherever it arises''.
Yesterday, North Shore lawyer David Schnauer renewed his call for
Judge Beattie to step down after a majority of Auckland lawyers said
they no longer had confidence in his ability as a judge.
In a postal vote initiated by Mr Schnauer, 546 members of the
Auckland District Law Society voted ...
