Article: Nth Canty weather in July dull, wet

July was a wet, dull month throughout North Canterbury. Recorded monthly rainfall was well above the July average in all areas and sunshine hours were well down.

There were very few frosts but the lack of sunshine kept temperatures down. In spite of this, there was some pasture growth.

The official weather recorder at Lowry Hills near Cheviot, Doug Archbold, said July was a month of extremes, being wet and dull with few frosts.

The weather was taking its toll on stock, especially on in-lamb ewes. Farmers with feed crops were having difficulty avoiding waste with the stock having to cope with heavy, muddy conditions.
