Article: Wheatgrowers urged to watch for stripe rust

Stripe rust has been identified in a number of wheat crops in Canterbury, but infections have not been severe, says the Foundation for Arable Research.

The extent to which stripe rust will develop will depend on the cultivar grown, on the seed treatment, on the races of stripe rust present, on how early stripe rust makes its appearance, on the season, and on local conditions.

Growers should monitor crops and apply a fungicide if rust continues to develop. The cool weather aids the development of stripe rust.
