Article: NZQA assures quality for hypnotherapy

CLINICAL hypnotherapy has been practised in New Zealand for at least 30 years but still has to battle for credibility.

Some activities of so-called hypnotherapists have created suspicion, even ridicule, says Raymond Parker, director of the New Zealand School of Clinical Hypnotherapy.

He blames inadequate training and screening of students, the misconceptions generated by stage hypnosis and the "unqualified" opinions of some health professionals.

"Short diploma courses by some training schools or groups have also contributed to the strengthening of some adverse public opinions," says Parker.

Hypnotherapists don't like hypnotherapy described as an "alternative health modality."
