I've been spending a lot of time in my car lately, for various
reasons, and it has not been thriving under the attention. In fact it
looks like a bag lady's hang-out, if the bag lady was particularly
sluttish and drank a lot of takeaway coffee and half-ate a lot of
mouldering apples. My office at home is pretty much the same, but
nobody has to look at that except me. When passers-by glance into my
car windows to check their reflection and accidentally catch sight of
the interior, they recoil in horror. A friend has offered to stage an
intervention to protect the car from its negligent owner. But no
matter how I mistreat the poor thing, there is one indignity from
which it is spared - no ...
