IT TURNED out to be a dismal St Andrew's Day for the Scots as their Celtic cousins turned on them. In Glasgow it was Ulster who held out to book a Celtic League semi-final date with Munster, while in Edinburgh a spectacular smash-and-grab raid by Cardiff earned them an all-Welsh showdown with Neath.

Quite how Edinburgh lost this game after racing into a 14-point lead, and then taking a 19-6 advantage into the interval, will be beyond their comprehension. As the Cardiff coach, and the emergency tight head prop, David Young, quite rightly put it, "we were blitzed in the first half".
