St John's bid for Canterbury's emergency air rescue work is under
fire.
The bitter dispute has some of the hallmarks of a similar, now-
resolved wrangle in Auckland where St John bought a $1.7m Sikorsky
helicopter for emergency work.
St John in Canterbury is now accused of losing sight of its core
business and being disloyal to the existing provider. For the last
decade Canterbury has been served by a helicopter rescue service
operated by Christchurch firm Garden City Helicopters.
St John supplied the paramedics and funding came from ACC, the
Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue Trust (CWCART), and sponsor
WestpacTrust.
