Three ``well-built'' North Canterbury men attempting to free their
snagged boat ended up sinking it instead.
Marine Watch spokesman Barry Groom said he received a call from
one of the men about 10.30am yesterday to say their 7m vessel was
taking on water. The men were fishing about 4km off the coast of
Nape Nape.
Other fishing boats in the area came to their rescue and plucked
the men to safety as their boat sank beneath the waves.
Mr Groom said problems started when the boat's propeller became
snagged on a craypot rope.
