BLENHEIM -- Residents of Sandy Bay in the Marlborough Sounds are
about to come out of a telecommunications timewarp.
The 10 Kenepuru Sound houses, which share two party lines, will
finally be switched over to a modern phone system within a few weeks
as part of a major upgrade by Telecom.
Sandy Bay is the first area to be upgraded as part of a $4
million
Telecom project to replace all party lines in the Marlborough
Sounds.
More than 200 Sounds residents still share party lines, meaning
they can not have faxes, e-mail, the Internet, answering machines,
cordless phones, or even touch tone phones in some cases.
