Stripe rust has been identified in a number of wheat crops in
Canterbury but infections to date have not been severe. The extent
to which stripe rust will develop will depend on the cultivar grown,
on the seed treatment, on the races of stripe rust present, on how
early stripe rust makes its appearance, on the season, and on local
conditions.
The cooler weather earlier this week was conducive to the
development of stripe rust. Cultivars vary in their resistance to
the various stripe-rust races which may be present, and only Monad
has almost complete resistance.
