A young man who had an allergic reaction to alcohol died in his
sleep after drinking what appeared to have been only a small amount
of bourbon, Christchurch Deputy Coroner Colin Marshall has found.
Gregory Ian Shearer, 19, died in Christchurch on February 20 after
celebrating with friends at a bar.
Constable Grant Neal said Mr Shearer joined his friends at a hotel
in Riccarton on the night of February 19, to celebrate one of their
birthdays.
He joined his friends in one drink, but it was not known how many
alcoholic drinks he actually had.
After leaving the bar, Mr Shearer walked home, visiting some
friends on the way, where he commented that he was tired and that it
was very hot.
