Article: Feta gains foothold in US market

INVERCARGILL -- An award-winning Balclutha-made sheep's-milk feta has gained a promisingfoothold in the American market.

Dairy Sheep Products started to make the cheese last year. This year it was namedTradenz best export cheese in the New Zealand Cheese Awards.

General manager Riza Kibar said the company had so far exported 66 tonnes to Australia,New York, and Los Angeles.

The feta was selling well in the United States, and distributors had agreed to take100 tonnes in the coming season.

The company had funded its foray into the US markets with the $2000 prize money fromthe cheese awards, and with support from Tradenz, said Mr Kibar.
