WELLINGTON -- Melbourne's West Coast Railway (WCR) has confirmed
that it is the preferred bidder for Tranz Scenic.
Tranz Rail is expected to announce sales details today for its
long-distance passenger services.
"At this stage we're the preferred bidder," Andrew McDonald,
marketing manager for privately owned WCR, said yesterday.
"Negotiations are taking place at the moment," he said.
He declined to disclose the price, but said WCR hoped the talks
would be completed soon.
Reports last week said an Australian company was going to buy the
Tranz Scenic network, but four services were to be closed .
WCR chief executive Don Gibson said a statement would be released
today.
