Only the Irish have the knack to interweave eccentric comedy with
tragic realities, as they do in An Everlasting Piece, which follows
the misadventures of two wig salesmen who simply cannot stay out of
the sectarian politics of Northern Ireland.
Coming from opposite sides of the political and religious divide,
Colm (Barry McEvoy, who also wrote the screenplay), is Catholic, and
George (Brian F. O'Byrne) is Protestant. Both men meet as barbers at
a Belfast mental hospital, where they clip the patients.
They come across a wild-eyed prisoner called The Scalper (Billy
