A rhinoceros could have danced down Akaroa's main street that
Wednesday night and no-one would have blinked an eye. No-one was
about. Dead quiet it was, except in C'est la Vie. The tiny
restaurant with the huge reputation was humming.
For nine years Magdalena Lau- Nelles, chief and only waitress,
husband/chef Charlie Lau, and daughter Jasmina have been serving
their rich European-style meals in Akaroa, and latterly Duvauchelles
as well. When they started the restaurant, it was vegetarian and
