The crossbred market was described as buoyant, given the mixed
quality of the wools displayed at this week's Christchurch wool
sale.
Brokers said the wool was of average style, but prices were
generally higher because of a weakening in the New Zealand dollar
exchange rate. There was particularly strong demand at the sale for
sound, full-length crossbred fleece.
The halfbred and corriedale wool offering was limited, and the
lots which featured good colour sold well. The poorer quality
fleeces were discounted.
The merino market continued to sell soundly, reflecting the
diminished supply at the moment because of solid prices and good
clearances through the selling season.
