WELLINGTON -- Experienced hands, not raw recruits, will make up
the new police highway patrol.
Police Minister George Hawkins describes the highway patrol as
"elite" and expects it to be an attractive proposition for existing
staff.
"It is going to be a section of the police that police are going
to want to get into," he said.
"We will get newcomers who will want to get into the highway
patrol later in their careers. It's going to be an elite group, much
in the same way as the CIB is an elite group."
