Cheese lovers will be in for a taste sensation if strong-
flavoured cheeses made from raw milk are imported. World trade
rules look set to ensure cheese enthusiasts, including New Zealand's
richest gourmet, Doug Myers, win their battle to import strong-
flavoured cheeses made from raw milk.
The Australian New Zealand Food Authority (Anzfa) has already
authorised the importing of three types of hard Swiss cheese --
emmental, gruyere, and sbrinz -- made from unpasteurised milk.
New Zealand is the world's biggest dairy exporter and exports
only products made from pasteurised milk.
Domestic food regulations consolidated in 1984 stipulated that
milk used in cheese should be pasteurised or ...
