Article: Report pans Wool Board

WELLINGTON -- Australian consultants called in by New Zealand's Wool Board have recommended the producer board be axed, several of its subsidiary arms privatised, and its $116 million reserves divided up.

The consultants, McKinsey and Company, said if farmers accepted its recommendations for future strategies there would be no significant function left for the Wool Board to perform.

"The time has passed in which the board can be an effective promoter of New Zealand wool, or an effective mediator of grower concerns," McKinsey and Company consultant Andrew Grant said.

Assets created on growers' behalf could be used more effectively by commercial companies with a degree of entrepreneurialism ...
