Article: Wool prices strengthen; SELECTION OF CHRISTCHURCH GROWER PRICES

Buyers showed strong interest at yesterday's Christchurch wool sale as the sliding dollar made wool increasingly attractive to overseas customers.

Prices strengthened across most categories, and only 4 per cent of the 12,320 bales (1534 clean tonnes) failed to meet price reserves.

Brokers said there was continued interest from Chinese buyers, who returned to the market in May.

A concern at low sheep numbers with a possible shortage of wool later in the year, may be spurring buyers.

Finer crossbred fleeces (below 34 micron) were up by 5 to 7 per cent from last week's sale, while other crossbreds were generally up 3 per cent.
