Critics of Tranz Rail's safety record have been vindicated in a
ministerial inquiry which decries Tranz Rail's "culture" of blaming
employees for accidents.
"At the outset, it needs to be made clear that there is a problem
at Tranz Rail," the report says.
The report to the Ministers of Labour and Transport was released
last night. The inquiry was initiated by Labour Minister Margaret
Wilson after five Tranz Rail workers were killed in a year.
Ms Wilson said the report made it clear there was good reason to
be concerned about Tranz Rail's record and the regulatory framework
that governed it.
